VMSG Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Statement

VMSG aims to provide a supportive environment where all in the community are welcome and valued, and are keen to promote balance in terms of gender, ethnicity, religion, geographical location, physical ability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background and others. Our interest is in the science, and in your work.

Guidelines for Safe, Inclusive and Equitable Research Fieldwork

The Centre for the Observation and Modelling of Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tectonics (COMET) have compiled a set of written guidelines which can be used alongside their ethics and inclusivity assessment and code of conduct to facilitate and promote these values in fieldwork. These guidelines have been compiled using papers, blog posts, community feedback and personal experiences.

We strongly encourage any members of the VMSG who engage in fieldwork to look through these resources, share them within your own research groups and work towards improving our community standard of EDI in fieldwork by implementing them on field activities you participate in.

With great thanks to COMET and all those involved in compiling and setting out such a comprehensive and informative series of resources.
