
The Volcanic and Magmatic Studies Group welcomes applications for funding (up to £350) from researchers and staff based in the UK or Ireland who wish to attend and present their work at VMSG in Cambridge 2027. These bursaries are supported by a one-off VMSG financial surplus. The Cambridge Philosophical Society will sponsor a further group of bursaries for Early Career Researchers, including postgraduate students. The funding can be used to cover registration and/or travel and accommodation for the VMSG conference.

Statement of Intent
VMSG Cambridge 2027 Bursaries are intended to support UK-based VMSG-aligned researchers:
1) Who have a permanent or short-term contract, and who are actively conducting research in VMSG-aligned topics.
2) Who do not have access to other sources of funding to allow them to cover the full costs of attending the VMSG Annual Meeting in January 2027.
3) Students are not eligible for this bursary but can apply for the CPS Bursary below (and the conventional periodic Student Bursary)
The Cambridge Philosophical Society (CPS) bursaries are for those who are currently studying for a postgraduate degree (including MSci and MSc) in the UK or Ireland, or are Early Career Researchers less than three years from their PhD completion date.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for a VMSG supported bursary an applicant must fulfil the following criteria:
- Be employed by a UK or Irish University, or organisation associated with the mission of VMSG in the UK or Ireland (irrespective of contract length)
- Be preparing to submit an abstract to present at VMSG 2027
- Contribute to either the marking and feedback on student presentations in oral and poster formats, or join the mentoring scheme or contribute to an existing workshop.
- Do not have access to sufficient funding to attend VMSG annual meeting by other means.
- You must undertake research which falls within the remit of VMSG.
- Grants are non-transferable and must be used for the purpose stated on the submitted form. Awardees who are unable to use the award for the purpose set out in their application must relinquish it.
- Preference will be given to those who are members of one of the VMSG parent societies, the Mineralogical Society or Geological Society of London.
To be eligible for a Cambridge Philosophical Society (CPS) Bursary you should:
- Be undertaking or have recently completed a postgraduate degree (including MSci and MSc) in a UK or Irish University, or organisation associated with the mission of VMSG in the UK or Ireland.
- Be peparing to submit an abstract to present at VMSG 2027
- Do not have access to sufficient funding to attend VMSG annual meeting by other means.
- You must undertake research which falls within the remit of VMSG.
- Grants are non-transferable and must be used for the purpose stated on the submitted form. Awardees who are unable to use the award for the purpose set out in their application must relinquish it.
